A BMS is not optional decoration. It opens for a reason: voltage, current, temperature, or cell imbalance. Resetting without diagnosis invites a repeat trip.

What a BMS does

Protect

Stops charge/discharge outside safe voltage, current, or temperature windows for that pack.

Balance

Keeps cells closer together over time. Persistent imbalance needs diagnosis, not endless “reset.”

Communicate

Some packs talk CAN/Bluetooth to displays or inverters. Follow the battery maker — we do not invent proprietary protocols here.

Cold charge

Many LiFePO4 packs reduce or inhibit charge near/below freezing unless heated. Confirm your manual — no universal cutoff invented here.

Measure before you buy parts

Owners can inspect, document, and do basic setup from manufacturer manuals. Stop when you smell burning, see structural damage, or the fix needs sealed systems, gas work, or high-current DC you are not trained for.

What does a visit cost?

Trip $75 within 30 miles then $1.50/mi each way; labor ~$150/hr with 1-hour minimum / 30-minute increments; diagnostic $175 applied if you proceed.
